Divorce Coaching

My goal is to work with my clients to help them to get where they want to be throughout the divorce process. As a coach, I focus on forward-looking goal setting with my clients to help them to tackle challenging aspects of the divorce process, or to find themselves and their values after divorce. I offer a complementary one-hour initial consultation and I’d be pleased to meet with you to take the mystery out of what a divorce coach does, and to discuss whether we might be a good fit for one another

A divorce coach is a type of coaching professional who provides services to people going through, thinking about, or adjusting to life after divorce. Divorce coaches are typically self employed; they enjoy the freedom of entrepreneurship, but frequently form professional relationships with other divorce-industry professionals. The American Bar Association (ABA), which recognizes the profession as providing helpful alternative form of conflict resolution to those experiencing divorce, defines divorce coaching as:

A flexible, goal-oriented process designed to support, motivate, and guide people going through divorce to help them make the best possible decisions for their future, based on their particular interests, needs, and concerns.

Coaches do not provide legal advice or counsel, but instead help clients work out an action plan, such as:

• Will they hire an attorney, or do an uncontested divorce?

• Have they worked out a custody arrangement?

• How are they going to tell their relatives, and when?

• What timeframe for the whole process do they have in mind?

• Are there any other potential difficulties that they had not foreseen?

A divorce coaching client could be a person who:

 • is considering divorce, but is unsure of their options and needs a neutral party to point them in the right direction

• is worried that their partner might ask for a divorce and doesn’t know what to do

•is looking for advice about finding legal counsel and doesn’t know where to start

• is in the midst of a divorce and needs someone to help them make decisions and set goals that align with their needs and values

• wants the support of an impartial, supportive guide to help them through every stage of the divorce

• is going through a divorce and needs support and accountability to get through certain milestones and take challenging steps

• is a parent and is worried about communicating with their children about the divorce and how the divorce will impact the children

• is co-parenting with an ex-partner who they can’t even have a conversation with, and is looking to improve the relationship for the sake of their kids

• has been divorced for a while and is struggling to “find themselves” in the aftermath

• is ready to start dating after having been divorced for a while and is feeling unsure about where to begin

A typical divorce coaching program includes the following:
