Over the past couple years, I have had the opportunity to work with Melissa through her involvement with Junior Achievement. She is the Chair of JA and is also deeply involved in numerous professional and Non-Profit organizations in Tyler and with many, she has a leadership role.

I have known Melissa Shanhouse in a variety of capacities for over five years. We met during Leadership Women, a year-long statewide leadership program.

Melissa Shanhouse is one of the greatest people I have ever been fortunate enough to know in my life. Her character, integrity, and deepness of caring for others in unimpeachable.

I first met Melissa in 2000 when we both worked at HD Vest, a financial services firm. I was a trader, and she was in general support. I would occasionally need to transfer our financial advisors over to general support to help them resolve issues with their trading accounts. It quickly became apparent that if Melissa was involved, the advisors’ issues would be solved swiftly and correctly. Through that working relationship a friendship started that has endured and grown through today.

Melissa has a kindness about her that I am having a hard time putting into words. She is there for anyone, day or night, if they need anything. And when I say anyone, I mean anyone. Family, friend, acquaintance, stranger, it does not matter to her. She will stand up for you no matter what, and at the same time, tell you when you are in the wrong, and talk through the issues. She is a trusted sounding board, and I always know that I am getting honest answers from her.

She would deny and downplay this to the world, but she is a natural leader. She inspires the people around her. And people are drawn to her. She has a magnetic personality. Not because she is flashy, but because she is sincere, open, and true. Melissa has been, and continues to be, a positive influence in my and others’ lives.

Melissa is profoundly impactful.  She sees into life with brilliant lenses, like looking at life through a kaleidoscope. Her soul is open, real, vulnerable, and raw which brings richness to the world she engages.
